  • A CDL stands for Commercial Driver’s License and is required for individuals who operate commercial vehicles such as trucks and buses in the United States.

  • The CDL training program is 4 weeks long. There are many factors that may influence the timeline.

  • Indiana has three CDL classes; Class A, Class B, and Class C . Below are the following vehicles you can drive with each class of Indiana CDL:

    Class A: Any combination of vehicles with a combined gross weight of more than 26,001 pounds or more, with trailers weighing more than 10,000 pounds

    Class B: Any single vehicle with a gross weight of 26,001 pounds or more, or a vehicle towing another that weighs more than 10,000 pounds.

    Class C: Any vehicle or combination of vehicles that doesn’t meet the definition of either Class A or B but transports 16 or more people, including the driver; or any vehicle required by federal regulations to transport hazardous materials.

  • You need to be at least 18 years of age to transport property within Indiana. If you want to transport people, you’ll need to be at least 21 years of age. You’ll also need to be at least 21 years of age to get an endorsement added to your CDL in Indiana as well as to travel out of the state of Indiana.
